See my latest picture book, Woodnight!

My first children’s picture book, The Grackle and the Daffodils, is also in print.
When Zora the dog does a good deed, she is rewarded with a magical gift. But when her special gift backfires, she learns how to listen to find her way home. (ages 5-8)

The Grackle and the Daffodils includes many animals from New England urban and forest habitats (as well as a Pacific Islands bird).
Who is Buddy?

Buddy was a rescue dog who needed a home and a loving family. My family needed a dog to love, and we are so happy to have found Buddy! He was rescued in December 2021 and we adopted him in February 2022. In between, he stayed with a wonderful foster family.
Buddy’s face is very expressive, so he’s fun to draw. Here are my “SomeBuddyBlog” sketches and paintings and his story in a graphic blog. Buddy is 4 years old and was not socialized. With help and advice from many resources, my family is gradually reintroducing Buddy to the world. We want him to know that he is safe now, but he is a very cautious dog, and he needs us to follow his lead regarding feeling comfortable around fear triggers.
I am also including sketches of the wild animals that I interact with in both New England forest and urban habitats. I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, an urban oasis for birds! I also spend lots of time on a serene mountaintop in the woods of Maine, where each day, nature sends me a new treasure to observe: a rare spring orchid, an indigo bunting, the sounds of thrushes, the snarl of a lynx in the dark, a tiny tourmaline crystal lodged in the earth whose glint catches my eye through the dappled sunlight, and a Milky Way you could drink sometimes.
My biggest goal in creating this website is to share my love of animals and nature. The world is full of gifts that are absolutely free, only costing us a moment to pause and observe our natural environments.
Barter
Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children’s faces looking up
Holding wonder like a cup.
Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit’s still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
Enjoy!
